To ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone on course, we kindly ask all members and guests to observe the following expectations and club etiquette.
Dress Code
Members and visitors are required to conform to a standard of dress both on the course and in the clubhouse, to maintain the club’s high standards.
On Course Acceptable Dress
- Smart and neat golfing attire in all areas of the course and Clubhouse, including the bar, Veranda and Dining Room.
- Collared Shirts.
- Men’s shirts are to be tucked in.
- Tailored skirts, shorts, and pants.
- Socks must always be worn with golf shoes. Short socks that are either predominantly white or compliment the colour of the other clothing are permitted. Long socks must always be pulled up.
- Metal spikes are prohibited on the course and in the Clubhouse. Dimpled, rippled and flat rubber golf shoes are encouraged, whilst soft spikes are also acceptable and can be worn in the Clubhouse.
On Course Unacceptable Dress
- Any form or colour of denim clothing or moleskins.
- Clothing with bold logos or obvious advertising motifs.
- Tight or revealing clothing.
- Cargo, tracksuit pants, leisure suits or leggings.
- Shorts or trousers with draw string waists.
- Sport, athletic or bicycle shorts.
- Trousers tucked into socks.
- Sandals and open footwear for men.
- Golf caps with the peak not facing forwards or caps with bold, non-golfing logos.
Course Etiquette
The following guidelines will ensure you and your fellow players have an enjoyable round and a memorable Commonwealth experience.
Speed of Play - Ready Golf
- Your round at Commonwealth should take no more than 4 hours and 15 minutes to complete.
- Be aware of your group’s speed of play and your position relative to the group in front.
- Minimise your time on the tee. Tee off when ready rather than in order of honour.
- Hit when ready and safe to do so – whether it is your turn or not.
- Assist others in the group with tending flags, raking bunkers, looking for balls etc.
- Leave the putting green promptly and wait until the next tee to record your score.
Course Care
- Course care is the responsibility of all players.
- Sand buckets must be carried at all times and all divots repaired carefully, including those in the rough.
- Before leaving a bunker, repair the sand with the rake provided, smoothing over the area of shot and footprints.
- Bunker rakes should be placed in the middle of the bunker with the handle pointing towards the tee.
- Enter and exit a bunker via its lowest point.
- Keep buggies away from putting surfaces.
- Repair all pitch marks with a repair tool, ensuring the putting surface is smooth for the next group.
- Do not retrieve balls from the hole with your putter and replace the flagstick carefully.
- Be respectful to fellow golfers at all times.
Smoking & Vaping
Smoking and vaping is not permitted on any external verandah, terrace or the undercroft at the golf shop.
Members and guests may smoke or vape on the golf course, practice areas and carpark.
Cigarette butts should be disposed of in an appropriate matter, and not in a sand bucket.
Smoking is not permitted on the course on extreme fire warning days, and may be prohibited on any extreme weather day at the instruction of golf shop staff.
Mobile Phones & Apps
- Mobile phones should be left on silent and calls should not be made or taken during a round, except in the case of an emergency.
- You may use your phone for texts, emails and other information during a round but not so as to delay play or inconvenience others.
Children
Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult while on course, or using the putting or practice facilities.

Distance Markers
Sprinkler head distance markers are measured to the front, centre and back of the green.
Tee Colours
- Cambridge Blue
- White
- Gold
- Oxford Blue
Extreme Weather Conditions
In the event of extreme weather conditions please take direction from the Golf Shop staff, be patient and respect the advice being given.
- Suspension of play is indicated with one long blast of the siren, upon which players must mark their ball and return to inside the clubhouse immediately and await further information. Practice facilities must also be vacated.
- One long blast of siren – Resume play.
Local Rules
To be read in conjunction with the Rules of Golf and any Temporary Local Rules.
Out of Bounds
OUT OF BOUNDS (OOB), RULE 18.2
- Beyond any fence bounding the course, or any area within the Course Boundaries as defined by White Posts with Black Tops.
- The Clubhouse, the practice putting greens in front of the Clubhouse and garden beds bordered by brick paving in Clubhouse surrounds, all car parks and associated roads and paths, including all those leading to and/or adjacent to the Clubhouse. le. The Practice Fairway.
Practice Putting Greens
(Excluding those in front of the Clubhouse which are OOB)
Practice putting greens are Wrong Greens, relief MUST be taken in under Rule 13.lf.
Ground Under Repair
Defined as any area of the course bounded by White Stakes or White Lines (whether continuous or dotted) Relief may be taken in accordance with Rule 16.l b
Immovable Obstructions
The following items are defined as immovable obstructions and relief may be taken under Rule 16.l b:
- 4a. Fixed Sprinkler Heads/Tap Covers which are on the player's line of play, within two club-lengths of the putting green, and within two club lengths of the ball.
- 4b. All stakes defining GUR areas, No Play Zones and Red penalty areas.
Staked Trees and Shrubs
(Including Guards/Stakes)
If such a tree/shrub interferes with a player's stance or the area of the intended swing, the ball MUST be lifted, and dropped in accordance with Rule 16.l b.
Loose Impediments in Bunkers
Loose impediments in bunkers are movable obstructions. Rules 12.2a and 15.l apply.
All Paths and Tracks
Artificially surfaced paths (excluding those defined as OOB) are Immovable Obstructions and relief may be taken as per Rule 16.l b. All other paths and tracks (excluding those defined as OOB) are declared to be integral parts of the course. They are not obstructions.
No Play Zones (NPZ)
Relief MUST be taken from NPZs as per any Temporary Local Rule instructions.
