Oppy to face Duchini in Men’s Club Championship Final

Posted on: 21 January

Josh Oppy will face Mat Duchini over 36 holes on Sunday 21 January to determine who will be the 2024 Men’s Club Champion.

Josh squared off against Alex Webster, who was the overwhelming favourite after qualifying in first position. It was Josh however who made the stronger start with birdies on 4, 7 and 8 giving him a slender advantage. Alex fought back during the middle stages and after the 14th hole the match was all square. Josh would go onto make a great birdie on 15, his 5th for the day which took him to 1 up with 3 to go and from there he was able to hang on to win 2&1.

In the 2nd semi final, Mat Duchini got off to a strong start with a 40 meter pitch in to make eagle on the 3rd to propel him to an early lead against Will Johnson. Will was able to win the 15th to cut the lead down to 1 and after squaring the 16th and 17th, Mat found himself with a 3 foot par putt on the 18th to win the match. The crowd was left shocked when Mat missed the putt and both players walked to the 1st hole, their 19th hole of the day. Unfortunately for Will he misjudged his 2nd shot which ended up in the greenside bunker and Mat’s solid drive and approach was enough to take him to victory.

In B Grade, number 1 seed and Victory Cup champion Max Donne took an early lead against Paul Prowse in their Semi Final. Paul hung in there and was 1 down with 1 to go. Max played the 18th well the ensure victory and his place in the final.

In the 2nd Semi Final, Harry Higgins took an early lead against Andrew Cook. Harry was able to maintain this advantage to ultimately prevail, 4&3.

In C Grade Jim Bulling will face off against Richard Buxton in the final after both players enjoyed wins against Michael Buxton and John Collins respectively.
